Naxos Island

  Naxos is one of the most beautiful islands of Greece. It is the largest island in the Cyclades and combines splendid beaches with mountainous beauty.   Saint George  is the most popular beach of the island. There is refined sand, exceeding one kilometre. The beaches of  Agios Prokopios  and  Agia Anna  are equally popular and clear. One can combine a visit to a beach and to a village as well. The Venetian Castle,  in the centre of the town, remains intact from the years of Venetian empire (1207 - 1564) and is the gem of Naxos. You can visit more from 40 villages, each carrying its own history and traditions. The beaches of the island are considered to be some of the most refined in Greece and the beauty of the landscape is unique.

  The internal walls of the castle remain intact and many Venetian houses are still inhabited. In the castle there are museums, the Catholic Cathedral (13th century) and the passage through the alleys of the Castle is an unforgettable experience. You have to visit the Old Market around the castle, that resembles to the castle, consisting of alleys and arches. Apiranthos, is a traditional village on a mountain of 650m and it is noted for the traditional architecture.  Koronos is another village built on a mountain as well noted for its emery mines. There are many remaining monuments (such as Byzantine churches and towers) at the villages of Keramoti, Sagkri, Halki, etc.
